Welcome to Traditional Arts On
Tour!
The purpose of this site in to help individuals and communities
better understand and value diversity by offering a content
rich resource that features the music, arts, and culture of
many ethnic populations that make up the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
We invite you to browse through our Artist Profiles section
to learn about their personal stories, art forms, and to listen
to their recordings. Teachers and students should review sample
lesson plans from our Study Guide to What's Your Name?, a
CD sampler including recordings of many of the artists featured
on this site. If you are interested in purchasing any of the
recordings or the Study Guide, be sure to check out our On
Tour Catalogue. Our Resources page includes listings of statewide
and regional organizations that support the preservation,
practice and presentation of traditional arts, as well as
publications and media resources that will assist you in increasing
awareness, appreciation, and understanding of those arts.
Over the next few months we will be adding new sections to
On Tour, including profiles of fellowship and apprenticeship
recipients from our Folk and Traditional Arts Program, developed
in collaboration with the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts.
