Pacific parrotlets have been called "the smallest parrot". If you only have an itty bitty space (or even if you have more room) these cute little pets are a perfect choice due to their small 5-inch size and their quiet chirps. Overall they are fairly quiet birds that make delightful companions and who become very attached to their owners. These pint-sized, olive-green birds have pink beaks and legs. Males have dark blue wings, backs and rumps with an emerald green streak behind the eyes instead of blue. Their personalities are much like an Amazon parrot but their small size makes them much easier to work with and a better choice for children. They can be very comical, showing off for onlookers, very playful! Parrotlets love to be with you. They are active little birds who are very playful and make wonderful family members. We have talked to many people who feel that "parrotlets are the only bird for them" and we know how they feel. Some people feel that the male parrotlets are sweeter, but here at Home Grown Birds and Parrotlets we aren't sure! We love them both!

Green Rumps are smaller in size than Pacifics but are very similiar in many other ways. Some owners think they are sweeter, but we have found that the more you work with your pet bird, green rump or pacific, the happier you will both be - no matter what species.

Parrotlets eat a variety of foods. We feed our parrotlets a special blend of cockatiel seed, fresh fruits, vegetables and snacks. A favorite of our parrotlets is sweet corn on the cob. Never feed parrotlets chocolate or avocado as these can be dangerous. We found a product on the internet called Beak Appetit and this is an absolute favorite of our birds. They dive right in!
